How to activate it?
Temporarily: Dial "*31*", wait for a dialtone and then dial the number you want to call. This must be done each time you place a call.
Permanently: Raise a support ticket by emailing support@desk-phone.com asking us to permanently withhold your number.
What does it do?
In some cases you might want to not display your caller ID number to the person you are calling. By withholding your number, the party you are dialling will see 'UNKNOWN' or 'WITHHELD' on their screen instead of your primary caller ID.
Why would you want to withhold your number?
Withholding your number is useful if you are trying to reach someone and do not wish for them to be able to call you back or if you believe someone is not answering your calls on purpose. IT is used by many businesses for chasing debtors and credit control.
Important Notes
- When withholding your number it is common that many users will not pick up a call from an Unknown number as a matter of principle.
- If you use this feature in an abusive manner the calls can be easily traced back to you so please refrain from using it to harass others.
NOTE: We take abuse of our platform and the privacy of others extremely seriously and as such, impose strict sanctions on anyone found to break our terms of service. If your calls are found to be abusive in any way you may be liable for prosecution.
Try instead
If you are looking to make calls and fear that the recipient might be purposely avoiding answering your calls, we can always provide you with an additional generic number. You can then switch to this number which the recipient will not recognise to make your calls.
Please contact support@desk-phone.com if you would like more information on withholding your number and the implications of doing so.
